Big things are happening for the Jeddah canal, which is part of the recently announced MARAFY waterfront development.
The massive 11-kilometre man-made canal is coming to the Red Sea city very soon, marking the first canal of its kind in Saudi.
The Jeddah canal will connect with Obhur Creek.
ROSHN, in partnership with the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has just broken ground in the giga-project of MARAFY.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the mixed-use project and lifestyle destination was recently held under the patronage of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Governor of the Makkah Region, and was attended by several dignitaries from Jeddah and Makkah.
The development will accommodate over 130,000 residents.
The canal will provide a waterfront area similar to the size of metropolitan cities (we weren’t kidding when we said it’s huge) like Chicago, London, Stockholm and Hamburg.
What’s more, an intermodal transport system will include water taxis, bus lines, and a dedicated Metro Red Line station, as well as a direct canal link to King Abdulaziz International Airport.
MARAFY hopes to strengthen the city by growing the marine environment and linking homes and communities with nature and essential amenities.
Full details including opening dates have yet to be revealed. Keep checking Time Out Jeddah for the latest updates.
The new development will feature multiple districts including ALAROUS, the existing integrated residential area.
Additionally, the project will add to the architectural treasures of Jeddah through elements inspired by the city’s rich heritage and historical designs.
