Ready to explore the mountains? How about a glamorous stay within them? It will soon be a reality at the forthcoming Sharaan Resort in AlUla.
The Jean Nouvel-designed AlUla hotel is actually being carved into the sandstone mountains of the Saudi oasis. Construction on the exciting Sharaan Resort development started on Monday March 25, with its inaugural rock excavation taking place.
Sharaan Resort opening
Nestled within the crevices of the ancient geological wonder of the Sharaan Nature Reserve, Sharaan Resort will be home to 38 custom suites, which will all be carved into the reserve’s sandstone mountains, as well as wellness facilities, family-friendly amenities, diverse dining options and unique panoramic views of the surrounding nature.

The Sharaan Resort project comes after the RCU and its contractor partners have developed construction techniques that take the ancient Nabataean practice of creating spaces within rocks, while still applying modern engineering methods to create spaces aligned with modern-day life.
Part of the project’s uniqueness is the fact that there will be excavated areas one on top of the other.
