Saddle up: The Saudi Cup 2024 is galloping back to Riyadh.
The world’s most expensive horse racing competition is back with a bigger prize pool — $37.35 million to be exact.
Mark your calendars for Friday February 23 to Saturday February 24, 2024 for when the popular Saudi horse racing event is trotting back for a fifth round at King Abdulaziz Racetrack.
What is The Saudi Cup?
The event is sectioned into two challenges: the first being the International Jockeys Challenge on Friday February 23 and the Saudi Cup on Saturday February 24.
The Saudi Cup prizes
The Al Mneefah Cup, one of the flagship Purebred Arabian races held at The Saudi Cup, will be worth $1.5 million in Group 1. This is even more compared to last year’s $1 million prize.
The NEOM Turf Cup and 1351 Turf Sprint have been upgraded to Group 2 for $2 million each.
The Saudi Cup is a two-day horse racing event consisting of 16 races and some absolutely massive grand prizes. The popular event has been held annually in Riyadh since 2020 and it sees the world’s greatest racehorses, jockeys, trainers and owners competing in the Saudi capital. The 2024 races will mark the fifth edition.
The prize money for the Local Handicap happening on Saturday February 24 has increased to $1.5 million.
The Saudi Cup 2024 changes
Additionally, the International Handicap has been moved to the same day, making nine races on Saudi Cup night.
Lastly, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup has been shortened to 1,800 metres.
